Policy on Distribution and Use

The following guidelines are being provided to inform school district personnel, teachers, and trainers of the intended distribution and use of School Resource Guide materials developed by the Ohio Commission on Dispute Resolution and Conflict Management and the Ohio Department of Education as well as the training protocol for the School Conflict Management Initiative.

I. Options for Schools

The Commission and the Department of Education (ODE) will make the Conflict Management Resource Guides for Elementary, Middle and High Schools available to schools that meet the following criteria:

A. The school is awarded a school conflict management grant from the Commission and ODE and agrees to the conditions of participation in the Comprehensive School Conflict Management grant program as outlined in the grant application. For information regarding how a school can receive a grant application, contact Jen Batton, Director of Education Programs, Ohio Commission on Dispute Resolution and Conflict Management, (614) 752-9595.

OR

B. School personnel may have access to the Commission's Resource Guides by purchasing the Guides from the Commission and agreeing to select a trainer to work with them who has been trained by the Commission and ODE through a Train-the-Trainer's workshop sponsored by the Commission. The Commission will provide a list of trainers that a school may use to select an individual trainer who best fits their needs. The Commission will also provide schools with a Consumer Guide on Selecting a School Conflict Management Trainer to aid schools in their selection process.

II. Responsibility of Trainers

A. Only individuals who have participated in a Commission and ODE sponsored Train-the-Trainer workshop will be able to use the Resource Guides and the program protocol to provide training to schools.

B. As an integral part of the initiative, it is expected that a trainer will insure that those schools that are not part of the grant process will adhere to the conditions outlined above.

C. To insure adherence to the policy, each trainer has the responsibility to obtain and send the following information to Jen Batton, Director of Education, 77 South High Street, 24th Floor, Columbus, Ohio 43266.

  • Name of School
  • Address of School
