Greater access to mediation and conflict resolution techniques used by the teachers and students is now available at Garfield Middle School in Garrettsville, Ohio thanks to a new Web site. The site features a wide range of information for everyone; specific links for teachers, parents and students are featured.
For those unfamiliar with the mediation process, a section entitled "What is Conflict Management?" gives a summary of the school's program followed by "Steps for Managing Conflict" which describes how solving a problem can be fully carried out.
Parents are supplied with an extensive list of multiple web resources on communication and resolution. Additional Web sites and problem solving techniques are provided for teachers. A special and very practical section for students gives potential solutions to difficult situations dealing with bullies, friendships and personal problems. There is also a "panic button" where students can go to print out a pass to see a principal or counselor to assist them, helping to curb reactive violence in a conflict.
The site is easy to navigate and has some nice graphics and pictures, not to mention the number of useful links, including the local help and crisis lines in Portage County where the school is located. People of all ages, location and need can benefit greatly from the content of this Web site at
