Title: Pilot Program
Summary: Permits the College of Education at Grambling State University to implement a pilot program based on the CARE model to provide opportunities for students to learn how to utilize nonviolent dispute resolution strategies for problem solving as they develop effective lifelong decision making skills.


Section Number: La. Rev. Stat. Ann. § 201 (West 1999)
Title: Legislative Findings, Purpose
Summary: States that the legislature finds that there is a need to establish a pilot program that provides for mentor-student pairing, conflict resolution instruction, and parenting skills instruction as a means to achieve a secure learning environment for all students.


Section Number: La. Rev. Stat. Ann. § 202 (West 1999)
Title: Pilot Program
Summary: Creates the In-School Intervention Pilot program. The resource coordinator for the program will select conflict resolution educational programs for the schools. The programs should not be limited to peer mediation programs.


Section Number: La. Rev. Stat. Ann.§ 286 (West 1999)
Title: Violence Prevention, Self-Esteem, and Peer Mediation
Summary: Permits any public elementary or secondary school in Louisiana to offer instruction in violence prevention, self-esteem, and peer mediation.

Bill Number: 1999 Louisiana House Bill No. 2196
Title: Children’s Cabinet
Summary: Requires the Children’s Cabinet to establish a pilot program aimed at establishing and reinforcing positive attributes for preschool children. The program will also focus on preventive strategies to educate children on how to avoid the pitfalls of juvenile delinquency and violence.
Status: Session adjourned, no carryover- 8/20/99
